Birds watch in a bramble

Open Studio, CCC Strozzina, Firenze
2011

“When we were children living at Morry House, we used to go to a place where the stinging nettles grew higher then us. We used to make tunnels through them and run through with bare feet. It felt wonderfully secret.”
I would like to construct inhospitable spaces made out of brambles. Brambles can provide an oasis for animals threatened with extinction. Sometimes people leave brambles to grow between their properties, sometimes even between one country and another, in neutral zones, where people not easily accepted by society could (theoretically) live.
